- Joselman (Josel) of Rosheim (Loanz, Yoseph ben Gershom)
- (1480-1544)German writer and communal leader. In 1510 he was elected warden and leader by the Alsatian Jewish communities. He represented German Jewry before secular author-ities and interceded for the Jewish community in times of danger. In 1532 he attempted to curb the activities of the pseudo-messiah Solomon Molcho. Later he defended the Jews against the charges made by Martin Luther.
